BLIPMAPs predict thermal soaring conditions resulting from surface
heating of the Boundary Layer, using numerical weather
model predictions to provide parameters suited to the needs of soaring
pilots. Users of this viewer are assumed to be familiar with
BLIPMAP and its parameters, as described on the parameter
information webpage.
BASIC thermal forecast parameters
gives a short list of the parameters most important for thermal soaring.
Note:
This is a new archive viewer which for most parameters recreates a BLIPMAP image from a datafile,
which saves considerable storage space and will allow archiving of
additional times. (Those which view existing images are the
pressure level, slice, and sounding images.) This creation is
complex with a chance of error at each step - if you feel you have
found a problem with the viewer please report it to the RASP
Forum.
